Out of the Box!
Out of the Box is a student run, produced, directed, and involved organization. We strive to put on contemporary or experimental works that speak to our audiences and our performers. Our mission is to seek to choose plays that are prevalent to issues in our society, are diverse, and amplify the voices of the students at OCU.
How to Submit...
1. Find a play that you love and are passionate about directing.

2. Download our PDF application for a MainStage, and/or OCUEdge, and fill it out.

3. Submit your completed PDF application along with a PDF copy of the script using the Out of the Box email provided below. Please title the subject line with your full name.

**OOTB Play submissions are being accepted from December 7th to December 31st, 2020 at 11:59pm**
UPDATE AS OF DECEMBER 7, 2020: Due to COVID-19, OOTB is searching for applications that are outside of the traditional Main Stage submissions. This means that we are looking for you to submit projects that challenge your creativity. Anything is fair game— one-person shows, zoom-readings, socially distant plays with two people, plays with virtual elements, or any other project or play that inspires you to think out of the box. We can’t wait to see what you bring to the table!

Submit work you are passionate about and tell us WHY.

Submit works that bring a unique and diverse perspective to the School of Theatre.

Submit contemporary or experimental works that are good for students NOW.

Feel free to bend (or keep) the traditional view of the play (gender bending, movement pieces, etc...) We want to see YOUR vision for the play you submit.

Submit works that inspire and challenge your creativity.

Submit shows with 4+ people for a MainStage Slot. (Due to COVID-19, 2+ is acceptable for all 2020 submissions)

Submit works that can be produced with no budget

All EDGE submissions are typically plays written within the last 10 years.
Submission
Don't!

Submit a play you are not 100% passionate about.

Submit a musical.

Submit a play that can only exist with strong dialects, only has characters out of age range for college students, and requires intense special effect/scenery/costume.

Submit famous classics unless re-imagined or cut.

Submit a play if you no longer go to OCU, or have not been at OCU for more than one semester.

Submit a play that has been done by OOTB in the last 4-5 years.
